GREEN RIVERS

Bio-refinery Powering sustainable future with innovation

About

Green rivers bio-refinery

The integrated bio-refinery will refine starch-based feedstock, that will produce a variety of products including, fuel and food ethanol, animal feed, bio-gas etc. using Nigeria’s ability to source cassava and other starch-based feedstock.

Mission

Our mission is to create a sustainable manufacturing process by directly purchasing feedstock from indigenous suppliers.

Vision

Our vision is to create a Nigeria with environmental and economic balance, transitioning from fossil fuels to sustainable energy.

By increasing local ethanol and starch derivative production, we aim to reduce imports, boost exports, create jobs, and enhance farmers’ income through fair trade.

Problem
Nigeria heavily relies on bio-ethanol imports despite being a leading cassava producer, a key bio-ethanol crop. The country remains dependent on fossil fuels, with vast reserves of natural gas, crude oil, and coal.

While global economies shift away from hydrocarbons due to environmental harm, Nigeria lags. Additionally, rising fuel and energy costs post-subsidy removal highlight the urgent need for sustainable alternatives.
Solution

These challenges will be addressed by establishing and operating an integrated bio-refinery to process starch-based feedstock into products like fuel and food ethanol, animal feed, and biogas.

This initiative will harness Nigeria’s cassava resources and leverage advanced technology expertise. Ethanol, a renewable and eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels, offers a solution to environmental issues.

When blended with gasoline, fuel ethanol enhances fossil fuel quality by oxygenating it, reducing carbon emissions, and increasing octane levels.

Milestones
Green Rivers Bio-Refinery outlines a strategic timeline featuring key milestones, from project initiation to full-scale operations. These milestones include
22nd November 2021
Signed a know-how license and technical assistance agreement with spectrum technologies limited canada to build an integrated bio-refinery in rivers state, Nigeria
Aug – Nov 2022
We entered into purchase letter of intent agreements with potential off-takers for the sale of ethanol once the company starts production
28 th February 2023
Received a letter guarantee for the supply of feedstock (cassava flour) from Dadtco Rivers Cassava Processing Co. Ltd
May 02 2024
Received Letter of intent to off take 150,000 liters of ethanol once production commences from Matrix Petro Chemical Limited.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The integrated bio-refinery will be situated in Oyigbo LGA, Rivers State, Nigeria,

Community impact

A centre for cassava farming and power generation with plants like FIPL Afam and Shell’s Afam VI and Okoloma gas facilities. While women are the primary cassava farmers, a University of Port Harcourt study reveals that men dominate profits through marketing and trade. Female farmers face barriers like limited machinery and fertilizers, reducing their productivity.

Our Pledge

We pledge to support the indigene female cassava farmers with fertilizers from our production chain. Further, we pledge to lend our tractors to the female farmers at zero cost. We pledge to collaborate with commodity marketplace companies to help link the indigene female cassava farmers to potential buyers.
